The basis for this book of images was an illustrated catalogue of cotton spinning equipment published in 1921. It allowed me to play with my fascination with machines, surrealism and metaphysics. The additions are mostly from an old illustrated Webster’s dictionary. These collaged pages were compiled in 1978, a dozen years before the release of Photoshop 1, at a time when “cut and paste” still pretty much referred to a physical activity involving scissors and glue.  I think that the spirits of Marcel Duchamp and Max Ernst were hovering over my shoulder when I did these.
